Samuel Owens, Head Coach

Former Varsity Runner

Certified by USATF, RRCA, AAU, and an ACE Personal Trainer

Coach Owens earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a minor in Athletic Coaching from Saginaw Valley State University and a Master’s degree in Sport Science.

Since its founding in 2016, Coach Owens has led the Midland Track Club from the ideals of life-long learning and long-term development. He seeks for all of his athletes to follow their passions and accept nothing but excellence.

Travis Jenkins, Volunteer Sprint Coach

Former Varsity Athlete

Certified in Basic Pole Vault Safety by the National Pole Vault Coaches Association 

Coach Jenkins holds a Bachelor’s of science in Chemical Engineering.

He coached pole vault for a year at Martins Ferry High school, before coaching sprinters, long jumpers, and hurdlers at Northeast Middle School for the past three years.

Coach Jenkins enjoys helping athletes unlock their full potential both on and off the track. Seeing them succeed and overcome failures is what keeps him coming back year after year.

Michael elbers, Volunteer Coach

Former Collegiate Athlete

Certified by the AAU

Coach Elbers contributed to his 2008 All State 3200m relay team as a varsity athlete before focusing on the pole vault in college.

He earned his Art degree from the Kendall College of Art and Design.

Coach Elbers has been the Northeast Head track coach for 3 years, and an assistant coach with Midland Public XC for 3 years.

Jacob greer, volunteer coach

Former Collegiate Athlete

Coach Greer ran both cross country and track for Oakland University and is currently training independently.

He attends Saginaw Valley State University

Coach Greer seeks to educate and foster young runners. He wants to use his experiences and knowledge as an elite athlete to encourage and motivate young athletes to work to reach their full potential.

Just as he encourages his athletes to learn, he seeks to educate himself further and develop his skills as both an athlete and a coach.
